You must only set xLanguage in order to recognize the square brackets lan_en, lang_it tags in: settings -> xLanguage -> options -> "Square Bracket, then XHTML if no square bracket tag were found." Having it updated to a new version (I can't say you what php version I'm running for the sake of security and cause I'm paranoic) solved all the problems regarding language tag cleary shown on every text of my blog. Now as you can see I have translations, cookie preferences, nice permalinks and widget titles that work well. Have you some problems with xTranslate and your blog? Just point me to the erroneous page and I will try to figure out what's wrong. I had a very old php version on my site.
